Intro
Can goodness be found in a world of doubt? Will you look beyond human promises to God’s presence?
Scripture
“There are many who say, ‘Who will show us any good?’ LORD, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.” — Psalm 4:6, NKJV
David wrote this psalm during a time of distress. People around him were questioning whether any good could come. Their voices reflected doubt and discouragement. But David turned his eyes to God. He prayed for the light of God’s countenance—the shining of His face—to bring hope.
This theme runs throughout Scripture: Aaron’s blessing declared, “The LORD make His face shine upon you” (Numbers 6:25). In Gideon’s day, Israel cried out in despair, but God’s presence brought deliverance (Judges 6).
In John 1:9, Jesus is called “the true Light which gives light to every man.” The light of God’s countenance is His favor, His presence, His goodness shining into our darkness.
